Hackers and Painters

Paul Graham has an interesting article on the creative aspects of coding. This is a good read for designers to gain an understanding the coding process.

gModeler, UML diagramming for flash development

Not sure where I found this one, and have yet to try it out. But seems interesting.

gModeler is a free online UML diagramming and documentation tool, targetted at developers working with ECMA 262 languages such as FlashMX's Actionscript, and Javascript.

Flash and Valid XHTML

Apparently difficult to achieve, A List Apart has used flash in its design, and managed to validate as XHTML.

Pretty soon, you'll all code in XHTML.

CSS Tableless Web Sites

To continue to riff off of the Wired re-launch and use of xhtml for positioning, here is a list of over 900 sites using CSS for positioning and layout, instead of tables and spacer GIFs.

This was put up from the Web Nouveau's cache, so it's not perfect. Since I haven't been able to reach Donimo, I went ahead and posted the list with credit to him. If he has an issue, I will take it down. In the meantime, here's the list of sites using CSS without tables except in the case of data tabulation, which is the purpose of tables.

IA and prototyping

Good article at Boxes and Arrows from Chris Farnum on prototyping for user experience. He presents varying levels of fidelity from high - low and the reasons or appropriate uses for each.

Traceability in schematics and working documents

Try to make connection between this method used by Razorfish and William Massie's use of CNC for designing and building houses in Montana. http://www.boxesandarrows.com/archives/002695.php
Idea of WORK > BUILT PROTOTYPE. Skip or combine process of WORK > (Document/Blueprint) > BUILT PROTOTYPE.
